The business sessions are themed to ensure that the speaker presentations carry a cohesive message and relevancy. The theme for the 2019 Convention is Brave New World

Over 5,700 miles from the UK, Japan’s dynamic metropolis, Tokyo, offers us the unique chance to explore a new setting, culture and way of thinking. 

From its pioneering work in technology and science, such as its advances in robotics and artificial intelligence, to its unique popular culture, including manga (Japanese comics) and anime (Japanese animation) - as an innovation leader, Japan has been introducing the world to cutting-edge products and ideas for years. 

From drastic geopolitical to social and economic transformations, our world is constantly altering. Globalisation and increasing competition are accelerating the speed of change, whilst technological advancements are continually transforming the experiences available to consumers. Our customers are choosing to travel for different reasons and we are increasingly seeing the rise of the conscience traveller, as environmental concerns influence holiday choices.  

Whilst we are confident updating our smartphones and systems, updating our core habits, attitudes and beliefs is harder. Instead, we tend to follow familiar patterns and daily routines. But as the world changes, so must we. Going forward into 2020 and beyond, it is paramount that we broaden our horizons and dare to be bolder, braver and open to new possibilities.  

This year’s Travel Convention in Tokyo provides the ideal location for us to explore what we can learn from the East; what we could do differently as an industry, as well as individuals, to adapt, grow and prosper in this ever-changing world.
