ABTA is delighted that the next Travel Convention is taking place in Tokyo and invites you to engage with the Destination Hosts throughout the event. Our Hosts for 2019 include the Japan National Tourism Organisation; the Japan Travel Agents Association, ANA – All Nippon Airways and Prince Hotels & Resorts.

Japanese National Tourism Organisation
Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO), a public organization of the Japanese government, works from its London office to share the latest information on Japan, conduct publicity around travel to Japan, develop tours to Japan, and much more.

Approximately 334,000 UK travellers visited Japan in 2018, yielding the highest number of bookings to Japan within Europe, and a growth rate of 7.6% compared to 2017. With the Rugby World Cup 2019, ABTA's Travel Convention in Tokyo, the Setouchi Art Triennale and the Olympic and Paralympic games coming to Tokyo in the summer of 2020, we have so much more to look forward to and can’t wait for newcomers and repeat travellers alike to dive into Japan’s unique blend of future and tradition, whether in Tokyo, Kyoto or well beyond the beaten track.

Indeed, 2019 sees direct flight routes connect London with Japan’s second city of Osaka, making off-piste adventures like a zen meditation retreat at Eihei-ji Temple, a hike along the spiritual Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route or discovering the art islands of the Seto Inland Sea, that much simpler.

Japan Association of Travel Agents
An association sanctioned by the Commissioner of the Japan Tourism Agency, Japan Association of Travel Agents [JATA] represents the private travel and tourism sector in Japan. JATA has 1,178 active members and approximately 1,000 associate, allied and overseas members (as of May 2018). JATA seeks to improve the quality of services provided to travelers to and from Japan. It contributes to the development of the travel and tourism industry through a variety of activities including disseminating information, encouraging cooperation among members, and promoting the development of businesses and legislation that will benefit the membership and the industry at large.

JATA has introduced the Quality Assurance System which assesses quality in the tour operator industry in three categories—corporate governance, service quality and CSR—and seeks to certify exemplary enterprises.

The Quality Insurance System aims to provide travelers to Japan with safe, worry-free, quality trips they can enjoy and make it easier for certified enterprises to appeal to customers. By increasing the number of certified enterprises JATA also hopes to raise quality across the industry, leading to more travelers visiting Japan and more repeat visitors.
