British civil rights lawyer, politician and diplomat

The Rt Hon Lord Paul Boateng PC DL is a British civil rights lawyer, politician and diplomat. He was MP for Brent South between 1987 -2005, served in the UK Government as a Police and Home Affairs Minister then as a Cabinet Minister and was Chief Secretary to the Treasury visiting Ankara in that capacity in 2003. He stood down from politics in 2005 to return to Africa where he had spent much of his childhood and became British High Commissioner to South Africa from 2005-2009.

He currently sits on a number of commercial Boards in the financial services and development sector specialising in Africa and emerging markets. He Chairs the International Council of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the Sir Winston Churchill Archive Trust. He sits on the Board of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and is Chancellor of the University of Greenwich.
