THE RT HON LORD ANDREW ADONIS

Former British Labour Party Politician, Academic and Journalist

Andrew is a former British politician, academic and journalist who served in the Labour Government for five years as Transport Secretary from 2009 to 2010, Minister of State for Transport from 2008 to 2009 and Minister for Schools from 2005 to 2008. He became Chairman of the National Infrastructure Commission in 2015, resigning in 2017 in protest at Theresa May’s management of Britain’s departure from the EU. 

He was previously an academic at Oxford University, journalist at the Financial Times and The Observer, before becoming an advisor in 1998 at the Number 10 Policy Unit, where he specialised in constitutional and educational policy. He became the Head of the Policy Unit in 2001 and was made a life peer in 2005. 

A regular speaker at ITT’s Conferences, Andrew is also the author or co-author of eight books – including studies of the English class system and the British political system.
