Raising awareness for responsible tourism

Responsible tourism is a fundamental priority for Calvià, which works to establish a tourism model based on the principles of environmental, economic, and socio-cultural sustainability. The municipality advocates for a respectful use of natural resources, ensuring that tourism development does not compromise the environment but instead preserves it for future generations. It aims to socioculturally project the destination, promoting respect and integration between the local community and visitors. Economically, Calvià promotes tourism activities that generate sustainable benefits for the area. Calvià's model respects its territorial framework, preserving natural and cultural heritage to maintain the identity and quality of life for both residents and tourists. Environmental care and resource preservation are essential to maintaining Calvià's identity and quality of life for both residents and tourists.

A municipality open to international sports 365 days a year

Calvià has a dedicated organisation for promoting sports, healthy living habits, and international events through the ICE (Instituto Calvianer del Deporte). Key events include the Challenge Peguera Mallorca Triathlon, various long-distance running races, international championships such as the Mallorca Dance Festival, the Isla de Mallorca Olympic Wrestling Championship, and the Vicente del Bosque Football Academy tournaments and matches.

Calvià boasts an extensive network of outdoor and indoor sports facilities, capable of hosting international competitions. With a proven track record in organising sports events and an excellent range of year-round hotels and services, Calvià is a strategic hub for high-performance sports in Europe.

The Challenge Peguera Mallorca Triathlon is one of the most important events on the European calendar, awarded the Best Family Race in 2024, among other awards received over the years. It is joined by other athletic competitions such as the Magaluf Half Marathon, the San Silvestre Calvianera — with the highest participation in Mallorca for this type of race — and the Galatzó Trail, a 35km mountain race through the Tramuntana Mountain Range in the Public Estate of Es Gataltzó.

Calvià, a gastronomic destination

Gastronomy has become a key pillar in consolidating Calvià as a diverse and attractive destination throughout the year. La Mostra Calvià, now in its 28th edition, is one of the most prominent events in the Balearic Islands, held twice a year in spring and autumn. More than fifty restaurants participate, offering fixed-price tasting menus that focus on quality, local products, and farm-to-table ingredients.

The efforts of local entrepreneurs have led to more than 100 restaurants staying open year-round in the municipality, with offerings ranging from traditional cuisine to exotic or fine dining proposals. In total, Calvià boasts over 600 restaurants spread across its various population centres, reflecting the municipality's unique characteristics, located near the coast and at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range.

The focus on quality and excellent service has been evident in recent years, as Calvià’s gastronomic scene has risen to new heights with the presence of Michelin-starred chefs, innovative proposals that have garnered international recognition, and the "love story" between the town’s restaurants and local products.

Calvià, much more than culture

Calvià has evolved into one of the most culturally active municipalities in Mallorca. The Town Hall manages three performance spaces: the Sa Societat Theatre (Calvià Vila), the Peguera Auditorium, and the Palmanova Hall. There are also two spaces for rotating art exhibitions.

The town council promotes the prestigious Rei en Jaume Honorary Awards, celebrating their 23rd anniversary in 2025, with categories in narrative, poetry, painting, and photography. These awards are now considered among the most important in the Balearic Islands.

Top-tier events in Calvià include the Mallorca Live Festival and the Magaluf Expanded Literature Festival (FLEM). These festivals attract thousands of attendees with national and international artists and writers. In 2025, the Mallorca Live Festival will feature Massive Attack, Suede, and Iggy Pop, while writers like Chuck Palahniuk and Sheena Patel have been part of FLEM.

The MICE sector (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events)

The MICE sector has seen remarkable growth in recent years. Calvià has implemented an ambitious plan to participate in major industry events and fairs, establishing itself as a highly competitive and sustainable destination for meetings and conferences. Calvià's participation in these key events not only strengthens its position in the MICE market but also highlights its ability to adapt to industry trends and meet the needs of the most demanding event organisers. From its commitment to sustainability to the development of cutting-edge infrastructure, the municipality is determined to become a leading MICE destination in the Mediterranean.
