Luca Carrà

After graduating in Electronic Engineering from the University of Genoa in 1997, I had the opportunity to enter the naval world, starting with my first experience in ABB as Automation Software Services Engineer, and later being involved in the project design of PLC-based ESD systems on board RoRo pax / commercial vessels.

In 2001 I joined RINA, where I immediately became involved in electrical and automation system approval/validation activities in addition to the approval of components of electrical/electronic systems.

During my position at RINA, I was also in charge of updating the RINA Rules and developing guidelines, on-board surveillance of new cruise ship constructions, and training activities for RINA inspectors also in the branch offices in the Far East for everything related to automation and control systems on board ships.

Over 21 years of experience in RINA's AUTOMATION/ELECTRICS department with the opportunity to increase knowledge in many fields, such as:

Today I am part of the Passenger Center of Excellence based in the United States - Fort Lauderdale - Florida where, as part of the Expert Team, I am involved in activities aimed at:

  •  Develop new digital tools to support our clients, such as shipowners, shipyards, and builders of commercial ships, cruise ships, and yachts.
  • Assist and propose services and "tailor-made solutions" for new requirements such as Cybersecurity, unified requirements, and additional class notations
  •  Assist clients during project assessment and technology qualifications of novel solutions in hybridization/refittings.
  •  Develop Cyber Security Awareness courses, on board OT/IT Asset Inventory activities, and Cyber Resilience solutions in accordance with the NIST framework and flag administrations.
  •  Maintain up-to-date RINA Rules and development of IACS regulations and guidelines.
